When a Marine returns from deployment do they get a certain amount of time off? If so about how much? I am not talking about leave, I mean RIGHT when they get back from overseas. Thanks!

Most unit CO’s give their Marines time off (usually 96 hours) to reconnect and raise morale once they are dismissed. So yes they get time off after deployments.

I just heard the news that the USMC will be cut back to about 182,000 I believe. Will that make it much harder to get in? fyi I would be enlisting in 2013

Its always hard to get into the Marine Corps, if anything is just a waiting game to gain entrance. Just because its drawn down, doesn’t mean it will always stay like that. Marines are discharged everyday just as new Marines are being made as well.

How do you go to college while being an active marine? and is there only certain colleges you can go to?

During your own time, after working hours normally after 1630 you live a normal life where you can go shopping, watch movies be with your family (if Married) and do your thing, within Marine Corps standards. During that time you can take college courses albeit at local Colleges or via online distance learning.

Is there any workout routines USMC specific for recruit training and for PFT?

Nope, wait maybe or perhaps the Daily 7, ask your Marine Corps Recruiter what those are.

Can two poolees date each other? I'm a gay guy and there's this bisexual guy that I really like who looks like he likes me back. Now I think that it's probably gonna be kept a secret if we do end up dating each other, but just in case, is there any policy that makes it illegal to date each other while in the DEP?

Its your life but there are fraternization policies you agreed to when you DEP’d in, read your contract forms (welcome aboard package). Its best not to dirty the water you drink from if you know what I mean.

My mos is infantry and I don't leave until august. I was wondering if we will still be in Afghanistan for me to be deployed there and also I wanted to know if you can volunteer to be deployed. Thank you.

I am not privileged to the war fighting strategy in Afghanistan so I can not address the first part of your question. I do know that our U.S. President has stated that at least 23 thousand more troops will be taken out of Afghanistan by the end of this year, which ones I do not know. Yes you can volunteer for deployments.

I was informed that having a tattoo on your wrist automatically disqualifies you from joining, what if one were to have it removed?

Could you explain the Buddy Program and how to go about it and what it entails? A friend of mine wants to do it, but she filled out paperwork for the Army, and now wants to go Marines. Does it affect anything? Thank you.

INCENTIVE PROGRAMS FOR APPLICANTS WHO WILL ATTEND RECRUIT TRAINING

  1. The Buddy Program. Recruiting officers are authorized to guarantee applicants who desire to attend recruit training together assignment to the same recruit platoon. The following instructions apply to this program:
    • a. Each buddy group will consist of not more than five Marine recruits of the same gender.
    • b. This guarantee is limited to the same recruit training platoon only. No assurance will be given about assignment to the same squad or similar unit or duty station after completion of recruit training.
    • c. Individuals desiring to participate in the buddy program must be informed that it is entirely dependent on them. Only if they depart for recruit training on the same day can the RS guarantee assignment to the same recruit platoon. Applicants interested in the Buddy Program must be advised that if a participant should become disqualified while in the DEP or awaiting IADT, that does not in any way affect the enlistment of the other Buddy Program participants who remain qualified.
    • d. Each enlistee or a “buddy group” will also be informed that disciplinary action, hospitalization, training set backs, or other similar action will generally cause an individual to leave the originally assigned platoon. This must be emphasized to all interested applicants.
    • e. Participants in the Buddy Program will be identified by an appropriate entry in the remarks section of the DD Form 1966.

When I went to MEPS They got a ladder for me to get up and get in position, then moved the ladder to time me. You slowly go down until you finally drop to the ground.
